Software / Aviation / Aircraft Interior Inspection

QAStar
A Quality Assurance software package that optimises pre-flight inspection of an aircraft’s publicly accessible areas. This software is already utilised by ASIG to fulfil their inspection of BA aircraft.

The software has been designed to be used in an aircraft inspection environment where the general process is to start an aircraft inspection by keying various setup details e.g. flight number, aircraft registration number. The inspector then selects the area of the aircraft to inspect e.g. first class, economy and record any faults found.

All information collected during the inspection process is communicated back to a central location using a direct connection to a PC.

The software is run from the compact flash card installed in the device. At various logical points in the software files are created on the backup card. This allows the user to continue the inspection via another machine, in the unlikely event of unit failure.

The software has been designed to run on an ‘Atlanta 8000 Series’ mobile computer. The full system requirement is as follows ;

Inspectors Equipment
Atlanta 8000 with internal compact flash card

Office Based Equipment
A PC  with the following TouchStar products installed.

  • QAStar Manager
  • AsyncStar
  • ActiveSync (from Microsoft)
  • SQL Server (from Microsoft)

Atlanta Cradle ( for charging purposes & communication between the Atlanta mobile computer and the office PC ).

Sample Screens

The QAStar package is feature-rich, whilst remaining user-friendly from an operator’s perspective. The following are a few screens for illustrative purposes only.

Main Screen
From this screen the inspector can start a new inspection. The first time the software is run the handheld checks the device name of the mobile device. If the device name is ‘Atlanta’ the user is prompted to enter a number. The number keyed in is attached to the name ‘Atlanta X’ to form a unique identifier. The device name needs to be unique for each mobile device in order to create a partnership via ActiveSync with the desktop PC.

The data is backed up to card every time a transaction record is recorded.

Start Inspection
From this screen the inspector will enter all the details required to start the inspection.

3. Select Inspection Category
From this screen the inspector can record errors in the selected area. This is done by selecting the description which will place a cross in the final column. This can be cleared if a mistake is made by reselecting.
