One of the most powerful aspects of TouchStar’s solutions is their connectivity. It’s what allows airport refuellers to centralise operations, service management teams to send live data back to head office and delivery drivers to receive and act upon new orders. Of course, the offices and depots where data is focused are not necessarily full of TouchPCs and other TouchStar hardware – they use desktop PCs and a host of other networking solutions. TouchNet was developed by TouchStar to take full advantage of our solutions’ connectivity and to allow our customers to be kept updated across platforms in an instant.
Installing TouchNet into a network opens up options for its users that simply did not exist before. For example, a bank of cradled TouchPCs can be networked together so that a central database can update them all simultaneously. One possible use for this feature is where a sales team needs to have the product list updated. A single data entry on the master network can update all the TouchPC’s without further interference, so when the delivery drivers pick up their TouchPCs in the morning, they can make quotations and sales with confidence and up to the minute data. Up to 30 cradles can be linked in this way.
Data can be transmitted and received along a number of routes. Serial cables can interconnect where communication takes place locally, or GSM/GPRS modems can be installed to form a completely mobile network that can span counties and continents.
To the administrative user, updating the data is no more complex than using a standard Microsoft Windows setup. It is as though the mobile or cradled TouchPCs are extensions of the office PC, such is the level of access. To the field operative, communication is a simple matter of pushing an on-screen button to transmit data.
In efficiency, connectivity and profitability, TouchNet is the networking equivalent of our hardware – usable, logical and dependable.
