IKI offer a range of practical rugged hand held computers for a raft of applications. With any of these devices, coupled with our Highway Inspection Package, TouchIT HY, the task of recording defects quickly and accurately on-site without paper is now easier and more cost effective than ever.

With TouchIT HY, areas of Motorways or Roads due for inspection are taken from the Host System. Defects reported by the public can also be included into an inspection workload list. Allocation of inspection work can then be allocated by area, street or postcode to individual inspectors and uploaded to the appropriate
hand held device. The Inspector then goes out and records defects and their related details. This entire planning and allocation activity can now be carried out on-screen using a PC based product called Data Control.

When his checks are completed, the Inspector downloads his data back to Data Control, either directly or remotely for viewing and reporting locally. The information is then transferred to the Host System to allow works orders to be raised in the usual way.

The system allows data to be made available instantly with no need for time consuming and sometimes erroneous manual keying. It also enables invoices to be produced in a much shorter time, thereby speeding up payment to Contractors and providing much more accurate and timely budget control to the Authority.

In the field, the inspector can also obtain major benefits. Before proceeding to his first job, the Inspector checks the area of road to be checked that day on his hand held device. Upon arrival, he simply touches the screen and instantly the background data and, where applicable, any repair history associated with that section of road is displayed. The defect is noted, SOR items recorded, and the Inspector confirms that he has completed the task.

Using the internal clock of the hand held, the time taken to list each fault can be automatically recorded along with travelling time between jobs. This data is included in the download and can be used to measure personal performance standards and provide a wealth of management information. It can also be invaluable when dealing with both internal queries and those from the public.
