Authorised TouchStar partner ‘IKI Portable Solutions’ offer a range of practical rugged hand held computers for a raft of applications. With any of these devices, coupled with our Street Lighting Inventory Verification Package, TouchIT LI, the task of collecting street lighting attributes quickly and accurately on-site is now easier and more cost effective than ever.
When a full inventory is available for a given contract it first needs to be broken down into areas to enable checking and updating to be carried out in a practical and structured manner. These areas can coincide with others such as Night Patrol Rounds or Repair Crew Areas. Alternatively, they can be created from scratch, using such criteria as Village, Town, Postcode, Chalist or Motorway/Trunk Road section. Once these areas are created, inventory update work can be allocated on-screen using a PC based product called Data Control.
Inventory, for the areas to be covered that day, can be uploaded to the hand held devices, or inventory for the entire County can be transferred and the operator given appropriate filters to locate relevant columns.
TouchIT LI offers a choice of methods by which the location of a lamp can be identified:
- Search by Barcode
- Search by Town, Village, Street, and Unit Number
- Search by Chalist reference
- Search by Postcode details
Once a unit has been identified, the Electrician is presented with a summary of relevant inventory data, currently held on the Host Database, on his hand held unit. Upon inspection, any attribute seen to be incorrect can be easily altered. The user simply touches the attribute concerned and a list of alternatives instantly appears for selection. The new entry is then made, stored automatically, and the inventory summary screen is re-displayed in readiness for any further changes that may be necessary. This process is then repeated for all units visited during that day.
At the end of the shift, any changes made are downloaded via Data Control for onward transfer to the Host Database. Only changes made are usually communicated, thus saving download time and data storage space. Inventory updates can be carried out as part of your Routine Maintenance regime, or during Responsive Maintenance activity.
As with all IKI TouchIT applications, the emphasis is on ease of use and rapid data entry. This approach ensures user acceptance and minimises training costs.
TouchIT gives the Electrician and his Manager the best of all worlds.
- No paperwork to be carried
- No forms to fill in back at base
- No need for anyone to sit and type details into a host system
Data Capture using TouchIT does all this for you. Furthermore the system can be readily integrated with other IKI TouchIT products.
